Circular Economy Strategy In Colombia – Five Years After Its Implementation
Since the year 2019, the country through the Environmental Ministry adopted as a national strategy the concept of circular economy brought by the Ellen Macarthur foundation USA based, it has since then percolated in political narratives and economy dynamics. Further along the line, in the USA the concept of circular economy migrated to ‘building with nature’ and the environmental agendas go with this term now. In Colombia we are still full speed with the first.
The effort to bring into our culture the academic concept of circular economy is valuable, even thought in our daily lives and since forever we are a culture that has forged, survived and built upon the notion of using, reusing and finding different uses to almost anything.
The benefits of having adopted the notion of circular economy as a national strategy can be clearly seen from the capital to the regions. The government has efficiently implemented a set of regulation, incentives and educational campaigns that percolated all the layers of Colombian society.
The common citizen and thousands of startups in the country can really benefit from the money the government has determined for the support of almost any project that involves de circular economy narrative.
The private sector in Colombia is making a huge effort in the construction, mining and agriculture industries to adopt and modify the latest requirements and fulfillment of indicators of reuse in each industry.
